Rex Education’s Edukampyon Corps earns LCF recognition

Rex Education’s unwavering commitment to uplifting Philippine education reached another milestone!

On July 1, 2025, the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), a network of corporate foundations dedicated to promoting and enhancing corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices, awarded Rex Education with its coveted CSR Medal of Recognition (Education Category) for helping capacitate the private education sector through its Edukampyon Corps of Trainers.

The Edukampyon Corps of Trainers, originally composed of 67 volunteer members, began as a project to capacitate the private education sector in effectively implementing the MATATAG Curriculum. It quickly evolved to address other identified needs of the said sector, including quality assurance assistance and mentoring (through the REX QA-SAMA Program) and the institutionalization of school-based professional learning communities or PLCs. After a series of enrichment sessions with renowned academic professionals, including 17 major training sessions, the Edukampyon Corps of Trainers has grown to 316 members trained and organized from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. To date, the team has developed 92 unique training materials.

Rex Education Joins PEPA’s BALIK KALIKASAN Tree Planting Activity

True to its commitment to stewardship and sustainability, Rex Education took part in the BALIK KALIKASAN: PEPA Tree Planting program organized by the Philippine Educational Publishers Association (PEPA) on August 1, 2025, at the La Mesa Nature Reserve. This initiative brought together various publishers to take collective action for the environment—successfully planting a total of 1,000 saplings across designated plots within the watershed area.

Rex Education was represented by Gwenn Jessica B. Galvez, Rommel N. Madrid, Dominic Leandre D. Buhain, and Ceazar Valerei E. Navarro, who joined the effort not only with shovels in hand but with a deep sense of purpose.

In her message during the opening program, Danda Crimelda Buhain, Rex Education’s Chief External Affairs Officer and PEPA’s First Vice President, emphasized the importance of the initiative in restoring ecological balance and protecting biodiversity, which are core components of sustainable development. She highlighted that as publishers, our impact extends beyond pages and into the planet, making environmental responsibility an essential part of our mission.

Echoing this, Atty. Dominador D. Buhain, President Emeritus of PEPA and Chairman of the REX Group of Companies, delivered a powerful reflection on the publishing industry’s close relationship with nature. He drew attention to the critical role of trees in the creation of books, how forests give rise to paper, and how paper gives life to print and brings life to stories. He reminded participants that every printed material traces its roots, quite literally, to nature. His message underscored the ethical imperative of responsible sourcing and reforestation, urging publishers to give back to the environment that sustains the very foundation of the industry.

The tree planting was preceded by a short program and orientation, followed by the ceremonial awarding of certificates and a group photo. More than an environmental gesture, Rex Education’s participation in BALIK KALIKASAN reflects our deeper purpose: to nurture not only Filipino learners but also the world they live in. After all, a healthy, thriving planet is the most important textbook we will ever have—an incomparable imprint to leave behind for this generation and those to come.

An Alumnus Comes Home: Atty. Buhain returns to FEU to inspire next generation of legal minds

Known as the ‘Godfather of Book Publishing’, Rex Education’s President and Chairman, Atty. Dominador Buhain, who is an alumnus of the Far Eastern University Institute of Law, delivered the keynote speech for the university’s 81st Annual Hooding and Commencement Exercises last July 26.

Atty. Buhain shared that his success in the field of Law has opened the door to head various book publishing associations, including the Philippine Educational Publishers Association (PEPA), the Philippine Book Publishing Federation (PhilBook), Print Industry Board Foundation (PIBFI), ASEAN Book Publishers Association (ABPA), and Asia Pacific Publishers Association (APPA), among others. He was also privileged to cause the passage of the Book Publishing Development Act that earned him the title, “Godfather of Book Publishing,” for spearheading the Book Publishing Development Act (RA 8047).

“From my humble experience becoming a lawyer, it provided me with many avenues to be of help to our country,” said Atty. Buhain. Rex Education, established in 1950, is celebrating this year its 75th Anniversary.

Publication of its first book titled “Legal Forms” authored by Prof. Sulpicio Guevarra, grandfather of now Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, sparked the publication of many other titles afterwards. Today, Rex Education has reached around 17,000 unique titles, helping learners across various stages of their learning journey. The Company now has nine (9) subsidiaries which now include robotics and digital learning.

In his message to the Law graduates, Atty. Buhain shared, “In my journey with Rex Education and the wider publishing world, I learned that knowledge is both a gift and a duty. I have been privileged to witness the power of the written word—how ideas in books and in legal codes can change lives and shape our nation. Books can transform lives; so, too, can a principled lawyer.
Never underestimate the influence you wield—how a just decision, a well-argued case, or a compassionate gesture can inspire change beyond your imagination. I encourage all of you to champion lifelong learning, to remain curious, and to never lose sight of your ethical compass.”

He further said, “Seek excellence always, but balance it with humility. Celebrate your victories, but honor your failures, for they will teach you the most enduring lessons. Be brave in defending what is right, but even braver in admitting your mistakes and learning from them.”
